Containment (OEB/OEL)
Engineering and procedural controls that keep operator exposure to a potent compound below its occupational exposure limit, banded into occupational exposure bands from OEB 1 to OEB 5.
Where cytotoxics sit
Most cytotoxic injectables fall in OEB 4 — microgram-per-cubic-metre exposure limits — which means isolators or restricted-access barriers, negative pressure cascade and dedicated air handling, not a shared suite with a cleaning protocol.
Proving containment
Surrogate monitoring with a tracer compound measures actual exposure at the operator's breathing zone. Containment that has only been designed, never measured, is an assumption.
